Yahoo continually develops features and relationships to keep the company competitive in the search engine market.  In this article, we look at three key features Yahoo is working on.  It released MySearch Yahoo Beta last month, and plans to partner with Adobe Toolbar.  Additionally, its indexes, such as Yahoo Travel, are producing valid traffic results.

Yahoo released the beta version of its personal web search in October 2004.  Users can organize search information, block individual search results, and save search results with notes.  Many of us have experienced the daunting task of spending hours researching something on the web, weeding through unnecessary information, and wanting a better way to manage the results.  This latest Yahoo development will allow users to efficiently organize and save a project for later access.  You can try it out at http://mysearch.yahoo.com.

Yahoo plans to work with Adobe to integrate Yahoo Search on the Adobe Toolbar.  When Adobe users update their version of Acrobat Reader, they will have the option to install this feature.  While this may be a fairly general tool, it is one more way that Yahoo is providing search results, potentially sending visitors to your website.

Submitting to Yahoo Travel is time consuming, and it may take a while for results to appear.  For many, the effort is paid back with a very good increase in web exposure.  We see the site sending valid traffic to websites.  Another huge benefit is that Yahoo travel improves your link popularity, a very important aspect of optimizing your site for search engine success across the board.  We submit many of our promotion clients’ websites to Yahoo Travel, saving them from the arduous task of enrolling.  Call or e-mail your account manager if you are interested or have any questions about this.

As competition among the search engines is pushing technology forward, we can be sure that Yahoo (and MSN) will continue to evolve in order to provide better services for web users and advertisers, all in the spirit of keeping up with the “Googles”!
