What is a Cookie?

Blizzard Associate | 25 January 2007 |

A cookie is a piece of information or message sent by a website server to a web browser, where it is stored on the local computer.  Each time someone using that computer goes back to the particular web page, the message is sent back to the server.  Depending on the type of Cookie used, and the browser’s settings, the browser may or may not accept the Cookie. The browser may save the Cookie for either a short time or a long time.  Cookies might contain information such as login or registration information, online “shopping cart” information, user preferences, etc.
