What is a Blog?

Yes, you are reading a blog. However, there are stillĀ  people out there that don’t know what a blog is or understand the uses of one. Blogging goes hand in hand with our current concentration on Web 2.0 and it’s implications for online marketing.

A Weblog or Blog is basically an online journal. It is generally concentrated on one topic per forum. The topics range widely from travel, politics, music or sports to family news. An example would be this Blog about Glenwood Springs, Colorado. People write about events, places to see, things to do, businesses, history, trails, etc. Submitting to the journal is called Blogging.

There are a variety of ways to control the content of your Blog. Some are restricted, allowing access to only one or a few people. Some allow anyone to post a comment but as the editor, you receive an email notifying you of a post. You can then delete the post if you don’t want it published to the Blog.

Website visitors may return to your site because you are providing information about topic or an area that interests them. Blogs are rewarded by Search Eengines when the content stays fresh and relevant. A well-utilized Blog is updated very often.
