What are Links, Why are Good Ones Important?

Regular readers know that we frequently mention “links” in this blog. What, exactly, are they?

At their most basic, links are what connect one website to another, whether they point to the site or away from it. The quality of your links contributes to your travel destination website’s performance in organic search results. The more relevant the site is from which you receive a link, the better the link is in the eyes of the search engines. Other things that determine a good link are the page rank of the linking page and the text in the link. When we are able to pick the wording of the link, and can use a major search term for it, we have a good text link. In the hotel and hospitality industry, for example, “Boston Hotel” would be such a link, while “Click Here” would not.
