Trip Advisor has just announced a new feature on its website that allows travelers to set up lists that include tips on where to stay, what to do, places to see, and where to eat. These lists, known as goLists, are kept on Trip Advisor’s website, and other travelers can use them as a reference when planning a trip. Each list is a personal recommendation from another Trip Advisor user who has traveled to or lives in a particular location. The lists are a great way to map out precious vacation time, with recommendations on where to (and where not to go), which greatly assists travelers with planning their vacation destinations.
How does this affect you, as a property owner or manager? Trip Advisor currently has millions of visitors to its site each month, each looking for advice from real people on where to stay. When your property is recommended, you can get qualified traffic to your site, free of charge. It doesn’t get much better than this!

You can set up a goList - it’s simple. In completing just two steps, plus clicking the “submit buton”, your information is ready to be shared with the world. Here’s what the form looks like:

  • Step 1:

Go check out Trip Advisor to set up a goList for your area. Include your property as the place to stay and some suggestions of things to do in the area, along with some great restaurants. As mentioned in previous articles, Trip Advisor has become a priceless resource in the travel market. Users read reviews and opinions from other travelers, often using these reviews to decide where to stay and what to do on their vacations.

Travel review sites show up high in search results. Take advantage of that by enlisting the help of your guests. Ask them to post a review of their trip after they have returned home. Make it easy for them by providing the URL to your page on the travel site. Consider sending a “Thank You” email after the guest checks out and encourage them to submit their comments online.

In a world of information overload, a personal recommendation from someone who has “been there and done that” goes a very long way with people planning vacations and getaways. This feature is a great addition to Trip Advisor and makes it an even more valuable online resource for innkeepers and travelers alike.
