Top Ten Trends in Baby Boomer Travel Market

Jackie Binion | 16 January 2007 |

The Baby Boomers, who are 28% of the American population, are coming of age and have the time to travel. Recently, Lauraday Kelley of Vacation.com made remarks regarding the aging generation and the surge that the leisure travel market can expect over the next 18 years. The 42-60 set (depending on whose definition of the generation you are looking at) have a little extra spending money that has been freed up for things that they were previously unable to experience.

Travel seems to be topping this list according to Kelley who presented these theories at the Society for Accessible Travel and Hospitality 11th World Congress in Miami. The following are the top ten trends that she identified:

  1. Family Vacations
  2. Cruise Vacations
  3. Spa Vacations
  4. All Inclusive Pricing
  5. Adventure Travel
  6. Lifestyle Hotel Brands
  7. Religious Pilgrimages
  8. Internet Usage for Research and Planning
  9. Comparison Shopping Across Websites
  10. Travel Agents will not become extinct.
