Watching trends is searches is a great way to see what is on the minds of the masses. Back in 2006, the top searched terms in Google were mostly about this new thing called Web 2.0:

1. Bebo
2. MySpace
3. World Cup
4. Metacafe
5. Radioblog
6. Wikipedia
7. Video
8. Rebelde
9. Mininova
10. Wiki

Look how far we have come, here are the top searched terms in Google during 2009:

1. Michael Jackson
2. Facebook
3. Tuenti
4. Twitter
5. Sanalika
6. New Moon
7. Lady GaGa
8. Windows 7
9. Dantri.com.vn
10. Torpedo Gratis

    Very interesting article!

Well, it seems that the web 2.0-hype has come to an end in 2009, when compared to 2006.

What I wanted to share is the top Google searches 2009 in Germany. This is quite interesting:

    1. youtube
    2. ebay
    3. wetter
    4. google
    5. hamburg
    6. gmx
    7. facebook
    8. web.de
    9. wikipedia
    10. video

    wetter = weather.

Interesting enough, people in Germany very often use Google to replace typing in the URL into the browser. People know ebay or youtube, but the prefer “seaching” it in Google and clicking on the link instead of typing in the address into the browser.

    Kind regards from Germany,
    Martin

I’ve definitely seen a huge interest in the social networking world over the past year, namely Facebook. This last year both of my office colleagues (who are in their mid 50’s) have joined Facebook and jumped full bore into the social networking world. I’m sure the social networking trend will continue to grow as we delve into 2010 and beyond.
