I would say 50,000 links for an xml sitemap is a bit excessive. I tend to break them when possible.

Interetsing take on sitemaps – I’ve had mixed success with sitemaps from different search engines. Some of my sites are super easy to navigate and I’ve still included a site map and they were picked up in a matter of hours! Like with anything that has to do with SE’s, the verdict’s still out! :)
