My Dad was a lifer in the Air Force. I think it made me a more independent person in a good way but I wish there had been a social internet then. i read lots of books but well... they don't talk back.

So true Mary. Trying to explain these social sites and how to interact is difficult at best. This is one of the best explanation as I have seen. Facebook, Myspace, Friendster, and others in that genre really are just sort of being there and maybe searching for people you know but really not actively looking. LinkedIn, and for that matter Digg and Reddit can be sort of similar. You have to really participate and put yourself out there to find those that think the similarly and then make friends out of them.

I dont think its a coincidence that while a link from Facebook and MySpace are nice getting links from Digg, Reddit, and even LinkedIn are so much more powerful. They are harder to get and you have to actually actively take part with people outside your established circle. Nice Article there Mary. Just what I expected from you ;-)
