Google Insights To Search offers… um, insights into several important elements of search. While it is hard to predict what the data from this tool is exactly good for, I can imagine using it to get insights into geographic originations of search as well as seaonality of search. Its usefulness is limited by the fact that it only shareds results for widely used terms.
It lets you strain your data with several parameters:
- The Location of the Searcher
- The Keyword Phrase used
- The Timeframe
- By Category

In this example I created “outer banks”. One thing I found was that I could get lots of different “insights” by changing the filters, search terms, etc.
Here is the overall traffic for that search term during the last year:

And the top 10 states that searches for outer banks originated:

These are the variations on the phrase during the specified time period:
The “Rising Search” shows upcoming trends. Again, change the timeframe to get a different set of rising searches.

I recommend you use this tool as it names itself: as “insight” … not Gospel.

Hi Trent,
Thanks for sharing new tools with us! I think it may be important to note that this tool is still in BETA, because when I recreated your search terms, I got different results for search terms and rising searches. What do you think?
This tool is new, and I don’t know how much weight to put on the rising searches. You get a lot of different results by changing the parameters like timeframe or location. It would make sense for the “rising searches” to change frequently too.
I do think that this is a tool to gain insight into things and should be combined with others to create a keyword strategy. I think some followup research is in order.

Hey Trent,
This is a very useful tool, and I look forward to using it.
I’m using insight since it much easier to found according to location all around the world. So if we have a targeted market our research is much easier using insight tool.
