New Google Endurance Dance

Three months ago, Matt Cutts, one of Google’s engineers, told us about a data center that Google was testing, dubbed "Big Daddy". This new data center brings a major upgrade to Google’s systems. Instead of being a programming-only update, its a hardware and software update. The easiest way to think of this is like using Windows 98 on a five year old laptop, then upgrading to Windows XP on a brand new dual core laptop. They both are Windows-based, and look and operate very similarly, but XP is a much faster, more robust system. Big Daddy is the same. We are getting a more robust and more feature-filled system.
This update is meant to take what Google has already been doing and push it further. It will punish those websites that do not follow, or completely disregard, the Terms of Service that Google has published on its website. Those who follow those terms of service, like Blizzard Internet Marketing and its promotion clients, should come out ahead in the game.
The update sounds very positive and great and, in fact, it is. We have tested the new data centers and like the results we are seeing, for the most part. The downside to this update is that it is going to take a very long time. Google currently has approximately 56 data centers throughout the country, al of which need to be updated. According to Matt Cutts, it will take around ten days per data center. This means that we could have 560 days of updates. This is a long scenario and means that the Google Dance is turning into an Endurance Dance.
While we need to be prepared for such a long update, we do not think that it will last so long. More likely, it will take will be four to five months long, though this may be wishful thinking. Everyone should be ready for major fluctuations in page rank and placement in the free search engine listings for a while. There will likely be differences between what you see and what your brother on the other side of the country will see when searching in Google. Please be patient and understand that until this update is over, we cannot fully understand its implications or know where a website is placed in the SERP’s (Search Engine Response Pages). We will provide periodic Big Daddy updates in this newsletter. Please check back often for more news on this major update.
