I recently came across an article wherein a web marketing research firm tested Yahoo, Google, MSN, Ask.com, AOL, Gigablast and Wisenut, each with the same keyword phrases, to determine the relevancy of the results returned.
Susan Kuchinskas over at the 360 reports:
MSN bested the top two search providers (Yahoo and Google), along with Ask, AOL, Gigablast and Wisenut, when all five factors were considered: relevancy, freshness of content, failure rate, difficult search results, and non-organic or extra features. Difficult searches were queries such as “car dealer fargo north dakota” and “appliance repair des moines.”
With recent buzz in the blogs about a Microsoft/Yahoo partnership to take down the Google machine, this victory could help Microsoft gain the confidence it needs to become a leader in the industry. Microsoft has eluded to an approximate $2 billion facelift to the Microsoft search program, which could signal the beginning of a bout of stiff competition for internet giant, Google.
