Microsoft made an announcement last week revealing its recent acquisition of DeepMetrix, a traffic analysis firm that has been in business for 15 years and has boasted clients as large as 7-UP, Yale University, and the Portland Trail Blazers. The acquisition was presumably made in response to Google’s launching of Google Analytics several months ago. The most intriguing aspect of the purchase is a software application that will allow MSN to monitor real-time information regarding website traffic. Microsoft executives feel this feature will allow them to be competitive with Google Analytics and propel them to the top of the sponsored advertisement market.
