“Live from New York, It’s Saturday Night!”

Blizzard Associate | 3 November 2006 |

Ok, so we don’t usually work on Saturdays, and we’re not based in New York, but we are Live. Blizzard Internet Marketing has kicked off a new service called Blizzard Live (”Blizz Live” for short), capturing the live social marketing integration of the internet.

By now, most of our readers have heard of Web 2.0. Trent Blizzard, CEO of Blizzard Internet, discusses the concept in all of his current speaking engagements. The lucky few who take the opportunity to listen to his brilliant gab walk away with a clearer understanding of the online resources that are the products of this trend. The rest of you may still be trying to grasp what a definition of Web 2.0 really is; be patient with yourself. Most have to hear it nine times before we get the smallest bit of understanding and twenty seven times before we can believe or fully comprehend it. So, I will keep this as simple as I can in the hope that we can skip a few of those repetitions.

What IS Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 refers to the next generation of the internet and how it will be utilized. The result allows for greater exchanges between people by providing platforms rather than single applications. A good example of single application vs. platform is like comparing a rotary dial phone to a Blackberry mobile device. On the internet, this evolution comes in the form of free websites such as wordpress.com (Blogs), myspace.com, facebook.com, postcast.com, youtube.com, flickr.com and del.icio.us. Almost everyone has heard of at least one of these websites. These resources provide a place for users to exchange information, social and personal preferences, opinions, review, recommendations, experiences and favorites. This exchange spurs affiliations to form based on likes, thus creating online “communities.”

This diagram, from O’Reilly Media was developed at a brainstorming session during a conference. It’s work in progress, but shows the ideas that radiate out from basic ideals of the Web 2.0 concept.

These communities have happened by providing the average Dick and Jane internet user with platforms to tell everyone how well Spot runs, AND show pictures of Spot running, AND to discuss his breed, AND to post reviews on local dog parks, AND his favorite beachside resort along with how friendly the bellman was to him during his 2006 summer vacation!

Why is this important to the online marketing world, and why is Blizzard providing this new Blizz Live plan?

Remember last Saturday when you were leaning over your white picket fence, enjoying a morning chat with your neighbor while still in your bath robe catching up on the latest steals, deals and cures? Simple activities like this are responsible for one of the most powerful and influential advertising systems in the history of the world . . . word of mouth. The power of this communication is now enjoyed online.

We all have social networks which we influence and, in turn, are influenced by. These networks influence the products we purchase, the services we enjoy, and where we stay when we travel. The integration of our social networks onto the web will prove to be one of the strongest influences over business and brands in this age of information.

Blizz Live facilitates our client’s growth into the social marketing facet. It optimizes the utilization of platform resources and strategically positions clients to encourage public input and secure a strong position in the social (internet) marketplace.

Blizz Live is an exclusive plan that we are offering to only a select number of clients. For more information, contact Blizzard’s Business Development Department via e-mail at info@blizzardinternet.com or via telephone at 888-840-5893.

Clearly “community” is the way to go… Hopefully “Web 3.0″ arrives fast enough, where Cyberspace fuses seamlessly into the background of our Realspace life, and wards of societal collapse and calamity…
