Increase Productivity – Use an Additional Monitor

How many monitors to you use in your workspace? I have 2, sometimes 3 when my laptop is open.

Everyone at Blizzard Internet uses at least 2 monitors; in fact one employee told me that “you will pry my 2nd monitor from my cold dead hands before taking it away from me.”
I HIGHLY recommend that you get your employees at least one more monitor because:
1) It will increase their productivity. I have seen research that productivity can be increased by anywhere between, 9-50%, that alone is worth the cost. http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2009/02/18/234899/multiple-monitors-boost-productivity-by-35.5.htm

2) It’s cheap. 24″ screens are now less than $300.
3) They will love (or at least like) you more. This will crease morale, and also increase productivity.

Everyone at Blizzard Internet uses at least 2 monitors and our developers have 3.  One employee told me that “you will pry my 2nd monitor from my cold dead hands before taking it away from me.” So, that pretty much sums up how they feel about it.

I HIGHLY recommend that you get your employees at least one more monitor because:

  1. It will increase their productivity. I have seen research that productivity can be increased by anywhere between, 9-50%, that alone is worth the cost. I read this in Computer Weekly, the USA Today, and the New York Times.
  2. It’s cheap. 24″ screens are now less than $300.
  3. They will love (or at least like) you more. This will increase morale and increase productivity.

Check out my productive team:

  1. I also work with two monitors!

  2. This is an interest point regarding monitor usage, as being able to split your work across multiple screens clearly has it’s advantages. As someone who works on a 27 inch screen I certainly appreciate the advantages of screen real estate, as it genuinely helps a workflow.

With modern graphic cards having the ability to split across two of even three screens there is good reason to buy an additional monitor. When coding having a screen for the design view and one for code will prevent you having to constantly move windows, and makes work more productive.

I’d like to hear from any Mac users, and if they attach an additional monitor to their setup. I believe this can be done with the iMac range as well as PowerMac, so this will be an insight into setup costs.

  3. getting an additional monitor can dramatically boost up your productivity. You get to work multiple projects simultaneously. It also significantly reduce the amount of time spent dragging windows and changing window focus. It looks also cool – a fringe benefit.

  4. I must be in the dark ages as I only have 1 monitor. LOL I do, however want to expand my ‘mission control’. Just as long as I’m not tempted by online games. :)

  5. Entourage Streaming says:

I also work with 2 monitors. At first I have difficulty working with 2 monitors because i forgot to glance or view my other monitor then I easily got lost when I look at the other monitor. But right now I am having a smooth working environment with having 2 monitors and I am not having any more problems.

  6. I started using dual monitors when I was doing a lot of CAD work with a laptop. It made a real lot of sense then as laptop montors aren’t that great.
Now I can’t do without two monitors. The only problem is that Vista doesn’t seem very stable with the second monitor
