How to Send Blog and RSS Feeds to Your Inbox

Do you find it hard to keep up with your favorite blogs?

Have you ever wanted to get blog, newsletter, or other website feeds sent to your Inbox?

Today is your lucky day!

Here is a quick and simple way to get all kinds of information sent directly to your Outlook 2007 Inbox.

First, go to the website, blog, or whatever feed you would like to get updates from.

Blogs and websites that have feeds available usually have a cute RSS icon like this .  Clicking on that icon should direct you to the page with the Feed URL.

If there isn’t an icon or the word “Feed” anywhere on the page, try going to the main page of the blog, then type in the word “Feed” at the end of the URL.

For example, we have a blog where Trent adds useful travel data and statistics, it is located at http://www.BlizzardInternet.com/Travel-Stats/ and the feed is http://www.BlizzardInternet.com/Travel-Stats/feed.

Let’s use that as an example for the rest of this exercise.

Step 1 - In your Outlook, go to Tools, then select Account Settings.

Step 2 - In Account Settings, click the RSS Feeds Tab.

Step 3 - Click New.

Step 4 – Add the location of the Feed in the blank space.
In this example it’s http://www.BlizzardInternet.com/Travel-Stats/Feed/

Step 5 – Click Add.

Step 6 – Now you are at Feed Options.  This is where you can customize how you would to receive the feed, what you would like to name the feed, and other configuration options.

Step 7 - Select the Outlook Folder that you would like to have feed fed into.

Step 8 – Choose the folder that you would like the feed to go into.  I prefer to have the feeds sent to a sub-folder of my Inbox so it’s easier to find on my phone.

You can always go back and change the folder later on if it’s not working for you.

Step 9 - Click OK when you have selected the folder.

Step 10 - Select Close, in your Account Settings then you are all finished and ready to increase your knowledge!

  1. Cool! I didn’t know Outlook has this feature!

If typing “Feed” after the URL doesn’t work, can we try “RSS” instead?

Also, how do we take it out if in case we don’t want to get the feed anymore? Thanks in advance!

  2. Thanks very much I’ve been looking for a way to do something like this for ages.

Does it work equally as well if you use Outlook Express (yes, I’m a Neanderthal !)

  3. looks like one of the only reasons to upgrade to Outlook 2007!

  4. Good tutorial. But I really hate Outlook. I prefer Thunderbird :)
