Search Engine News - Google News
Russ Cabe, Promotion Department Manager - Blizzard Internet Marketing

We have seen Google doing massive indexing of websites lately.  There is much speculation on what reason(s) they may have for doing this.  One theory is that they might be preparing for significant algorithm change, as was the case this time last year when the infamous “Florida Update” occurred.  Some of you may remember that we saw huge changes in how Google indexed sites for two to three months following that update.  You should prepare yourself for the possibility that a similar change could be coming again before Christmas.  We are starting to think this may be a very likely scenario, as we have already been seeing some tremendous fluctuations in Google search results in the last week.  We will be monitoring this closely in the coming weeks.

Another theory is that they are just beefing up their index to better manage all of the data.  If this is true, this could spell trouble for websites using questionable practices to achieve rankings in Google.  This possibility is exactly why Blizzard recommends using promotion methods that we know do not conflict with Google’s accepted practices.

A third theory states that this may just be an effort to compete with Microsoft when they come out with their own search engine, which is expected some time in the next six months.

While we can’t be certain of the true reason behind this major indexing push, experience tells us to be prepared to see major changes in the next few months.

One thing that we have seen in Google lately is our promotion techniques starting to move our clients up in search listings.  We are also seeing a much longer lag time between work completed on a site and noticeable results in search engines.  This is caused by the more complicated indexing algorithms that the major search engines are using now.  Work that would have taken one month to see results in Google free searches one year ago is now taking three to four months to be detected.  This is why it is more important than ever to have a definite strategy and goals for your website promotion for future free search engine performance.  Please contact your promotion account manager if you would like to discuss a more aggressive approach to free search engine performance or contact our sales team at info@blizzardinternet.com if you wish to become a custom promotion client.
