Don’t get lost, Google Local is still there! Recently, Google Local was renamed Google Maps, to tie in the ads available and the map positioning feature. Some of you may remember Google Maps from about six months ago. Google experimented for some time with the name “Google Local”, but determined that a majority of it’s visitors were still using “Maps.Google.com” to access it. As a result, they decided to revert to the previous name, Google Maps.
The capabilities of this feature are growing, and now they are showing Local Business Ads, pop-up location ads, satellite map views, and a hybrid view that combines satellite imagery with a road map. Local search is growing by leaps and bounds, and with the speculation behind the possible creation of Google Travel, this feature looks to have the potential to evolve even more.
