A few months back, we introduced the increased importance of press release campaigns for internet businesses.  Press release campaigns help increase brand awareness, broaden potential client base, and increase market saturation.  There are many ways to initiate a press campaign, and many venues to utilize.  We’ve seen multiple campaigns be successful, and here’s how you can take advantage of this service.

In May, Glenwood Canyon Resort unveiled new resort amenities.  This Glenwood Springs, CO business has been a Blizzard Internet Marketing client since September of 2004; they’ve gone through some major changes expanding their campground facilities.  The resort is located on the Colorado River and offers resort cabins and camper cabins, as well as tent and RV sites.

In conjunction with their grand opening, Blizzard Internet Marketing put together an initial press release, then later released an article in the local newspaper.  The initial press release, submitted via the internet, was intended to help generate some interest in the opening weekend.  The second release was an article featured in the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.  The article discussed internet marketing and the need for local businesses to enter into a global market to increase potential visitors and capture the full spectrum of internet consumers.  After the article was run in the paper, it was submitted to PR Zoom and PR Web for distribution over internet channels.  Both resources reported about 200 views of the article.

The goal of this campaign was to increase awareness of Glenwood Canyon Resort and encourage people to visit its web site.  During the month of May, 2005, 4,909 visitors checked out www.glenwoodcanyonresort.com.  The following month, the number of visitors to the site rose to 6,709, or about 224 visitors a day.  That’s an increase of 37% in just one month!  July was an even busier month for the web site, with 7,460 visitors.  These numbers are attributable to many facts, including the recent press campaign.

Here are some good suggestions from PR Web to keep in mind while writing:

    1.    Make sure your release is newsworthy
    2.    Start strong
    3.    Write for the media
    4.    Stick to the facts
    5.    Use active, not passive voice
    6.    Be economical with your words
    7.    Avoid the hype
    8.    Get permission!

These hints and tips offer a great start to writing a successful press release.  Your Blizzard Promotion Account Manager can help you create a well written press release, optimize it prior to distribution, help determine the right distribution channels, and capture the attention of visitors.  We offer a press release campaign service to our Custom III and Comprehensive Account Management clients.  Interested in finding out how this service may work for you?  Existing Custom III and Comprehensive Account Management clients are encouraged to contact their account managers for more information.  Those wanting to start or upgrade a promotion plan may contact our Sales staff at 888-840-5893 or via e-mail at info@blizzardinternet.com.
