Employee Spotlight - Craig Davis - Website Designer
Originally from Pennsylvania, I moved to Colorado in 1975 by way of New York, Alabama, and Florida. After living in Florida for 12 years, I came to Colorado "just to see what it’s like"; I still haven’t left. On June 18, 1976, I went on a blind date and met a girl named Pamela. Exactly one year later, we were married (and I still haven’t left!). I received a Certificate in Computer Information Systems from Regis College and went to work for IBM as an Application Programmer on LEASCALC, a program used to calculate hardware and software lease options and rates.
After 15.5 years at IBM, I left to explore other options in my life. Being an avid fly fisherman and fly-tier, I thought it would be nice to have a ‘fun’ job, and I became a guide for fly fishing trips in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado (where Glenwood Springs is located), and moved my wife and son, Sean, to the area. Hanging out with other guides, I quickly learned about other activities that caught my interest, including waterfowl, upland bird hunting, and elk hunting.
Since I do most of our waterfowl hunting on local rivers, I need a dog to retrieve the dead birds. Five years ago, I bought a yellow Labrador, named her Honey, and learned to train a hunting dog. After proving herself on many hunts, Honey had her first litter of puppies this past November. I kept two of her puppies, Misty and Gracie. I am busy training them to ensure that I will always have at least one hunting partner and fishing buddy.
Approximately three years ago, I decided to get serious (just a little) about my career, and went back to school to learn web design. It worked! I started working in the Design Department at Blizzard almost one year ago. I really enjoy being a web designer because it is a blend of different skills - creativity, attention to detail, customer service and support, and technical knowledge - and not just writing code, as I did before.
I still work as a fishing guide, but only part-time now. Working at Blizzard affords me the opportunity to learn from some top designers and technical gurus. Web design is what I have been wanting to do for a long time, and it’s my main focus.
