With a roster devastated by vacations and injury, an inspired Shenanigans team used a hitting barrage with some timely defense to play the heavy hitting Flye Balls line-up to a draw for four innings. In the end, it wasn’t quite enough, as the Shenanigans fell 18 - 14. The team’s manager, Russ Cabe, found a lot to be excited about. “We had a lot of good young players step up today. They played with energy and emotion, and gave that team all they could handle. I’m really proud of the effort.”

Among the youth movement leading the squad were rookie Stefanie Galloway, making a splash in her first appearance with some consistent hitting. Also making their first appearance in the big leagues together were the Liston trio: Solomon, Rachel, and Levi, securing the first time three members of one family played in the same infield in league history. Unfortunately, this led to the inevitable talk of Caleb Liston’s contract holdout. Upon dogged questioning, Cabe was forced to admit that Caleb’s absence probably signaled the official beginning of Liston’s holdout for more money. A terse Cabe responded, “We play with the players we have, not the ones we don’t have.” Cabe then walked out of the post game interview, refusing to answer further questions. Another newcomer, Mindi Cabe, played a solid and smart left field, holding runners in check with her powerful arm.

Listening to the talk in the locker room after the game, it was impossible to ignore that this wasn’t a team that felt like they had lost a game, but a team that found its future in a blend of seasoned veterans like Mike and Beth Buczek, Matt Creer, and Trent Blizzard, to go with their new youth movement. Many on the team voiced the opinion that with the return of some more key veterans, this was a team on its way up.
