Best of the Web Directory – BOTW – is Recommended

One fee based resource we recommend everyone sign up for is Best of the Web (aka BOTW)
No matter whether you are big or small, I recommend you spend $99 a year (or $249 onetime – lifetime) to join this directory. When you join you get short description and a nice link:

Visit Best of the Web to see if you are already listed (just search for your domain name), and, to sign yourself up if you aren’t already.

I think you meant to link to botw.org, not bestoftheweb.org, in the first link. Right now it goes to a parked domain. The link at the end is correct, though.

Interesting, I have heard about Best of the Web, but never really knew if it was worth it. It seems like the rates are similar with the Yahoo Business Directory, so if you had to choose one, which would it be?

Choose both… but, if only one? Probably Yahoo

Thanks Paul, that was a dumb error, I got it fixed now.

I thinks free directories like DMOZ and Yahoo are always a better choice. DMOZ is a Google directory and can give you high traffic but listing is a bit difficult.

Best of the Web is probably a better choice than DMOZ. I just realized that it’s almost impossible to list your websites in DMOZ unless you’re paying for it. If the major SEO toolbars are all caching the information for BOTW, they must be really worth the deal.

Hey,
I have bought a listing a while ago on this directory and, to my surprise, i received a good number of visitors. I recommend it!
warm wishes,
John

I agree BOTW is a great directory to use. It’s one that I use most often for my clients. Yahoo is good to but just a little more expensive. DMOZ is great of course but seems impossible to get a link there. :)

I think botw is the best directory today.Dmoz is dead long ago and I don’t like Yahoo paid services.

I used BOTW for one of my traffic ticket-related websites before I sold it. I paid the $249 since it seems to make the most economical sense. I will consider it for my latest site as well. Kudos on the blog post.

DMOZ is free, Ent Doctor. I agree that it is very hard to get into the DMOZ directory, but definitely worth trying. It is not dead, not even close. It is still the directory that google draws info from, so being included in it can help you get prominent search engine rankings too.

Thanks for sharing.

yes but, at the end of the day this is simply a “PAID FOR” link — i can;t believe that google for example, gives a link on a for-pay link (farm) any real value. It would go against everthing they are currently saying. I’m interested in knowing why everyone here seems to think botw is considered a meaningful link!

I agree. BOTW is an awesome directory and one of the few left that hasn’t been devalued by Google. Well worth the price. And it suprisingly does bring traffic.

Thanks for the information. I agree BOTW is a great option. DMOZ is only great if you get listed.
