Bad News for the Yellow Pages

industry_statsBad news for yellow pages, good news for online search:

A comScore study sponsored by TMP Directional Marketing finds that search engines have become primary sources for seeking local services (31%) — followed by Yellow/White Pages (30%), online Yellow Page-type sites (19%) and then local search sites (11%).

Last year, Yellow pages ranked first by 33%, followed by search engines at 30%.

It is good advice for any business to pay attention to their online yellow pages site and local search sites which combine to equal the value of the yellow pages.

Another little surprise in the study is an increase in mobile phones for local search:

Mobile web search for local services has also gone mainstream. One in five shoppers with a standard mobile phone have conducted a local search from their handhelds.

  1. How is that bad news for Yellow Pages?? People use multiple sources and print Yellow Pages are one of them — 13 billion times last year in fact

  2. I think everybody knew that the net would overtake yellow pages at sometime, just maybe not so quickly

  3. Trent, in this case, I tend to share my opinion here a little bit. Kris, a friend of mine who is now working in the Yellow Pages company, have had told me that Yellow Pages annual revenue is being slowly decreased year after year. He afraid that the internet will completely wiped out the Yellow Pages in the upcoming years…!

  4. jaydubbya says:

Kenc has to be a Yellow Pages salesperson because they’re the only people who can’t see that Yellow Pages are going the way of the dinosaur & the eight-track tape…

  5. Stats just simply shows that businessmen should still consider the use of yellow pages.. inspite of the massive importance and use of internet… and for a good result, combination of both methods should be apply for it’s impact for the business is great.
